6 Tried and Tested Ways to Take Better Selfies Hone your selfie-tography skills.

If you want a double tap-worthy selfie, it’s going to take more than just a paid editing app to help you bring home the bacon. Some general rules of the thumb are meant to be followed in order to master the art. That said, below are some tried and tested ways to help you hone your selfie-tography skills.

1. Good lighting is key.

It can make or break a photograph, or in this case, your selfie. To take the best possible photo of yourself, you’ll need soft, natural lighting. Shadows help add drama and all, but fresh and bright portraits are tried and tested to reap more IG hearts.

2. Step up your beauty game.

Do yourself a favor and comb your hair first before taking the shot. It’s okay if you don’t feel like doing the whole shebang with your makeup, but at least swipe on some lip balm and try to look as selfie-ready as you can.

3. Find your best angle.

Yes, as a matter of fact, we all have one. Try to practice in front of the mirror until you find yours, and soon posing for a photo will be so much easier. Find your best angle and know how to work it!

4. Smize for the camera.

If you haven’t learned anything from Tyra Banks yet, “smize” means to smile with your eyes. Channel your inner top model and switch your fierce mode on. You won’t need to pose from head to toe to earn that insta-like; a smizing selfie is more than enough if you do it right.

5. Pay attention to proper skincare.

You can’t always rely on filters to do the trick. At the end of the day, there’s only so much that your editing apps can help you with. Not even tons of makeup can conceal bad skin, so proper skin care is still the best way to nail a selfie. You’ll find that it’s a whole lot easier to take the perfect beauty shot when you already have flawless skin to begin with.
