We’ve probably told you this a million times already. Never ever sleep with your makeup on! But for those of you who still refuse to listen, below, allow us to explain in detail why not washing your face before bedtime is a mortal sin in the beauty department.
1. It causes premature aging.
If you want to keep your skin as young-looking as possible, then make sure to thoroughly remove makeup before hitting the sack. A well-cleansed face gives you a better chance at recovering from stress while you’re asleep, thus preventing the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Want to still look like your 20-year-old self when you hit 30? Then you know what not to do.
2. It clogs your pores.
Your face needs to be able to breathe, and it can’t do so with layers of foundation blocking your pores. Wearing makeup during the day is normal, but you should allot bedtime for proper cell renewal and rejuvenation. Not washing dirt and excess oil off your face before you sleep will result to acne-causing bacteria and potential breakouts.
3. It causes dirt to build up on your pillow.
When you sleep with your makeup on, all the dirt, oil, powder, and chemicals on your face get transferred onto your pillow. Bottom line: the more you do it, the dirtier your pillow gets! Imagine building an acne-causing bacteria factory right where you sleep. Ugh, totally gross.
4. It’s a possible cause of eye irritation.
Wearing eyeliner and mascara can make your doe eyes pop, but not taking it off before bedtime? It’s a nightmare waiting to happen. Trust us, you don’t want any makeup residue getting stuck in your eyes while you get your beauty sleep. This could lead to severe irritation that you will only regret later on. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
5. It slows down your morning routine.
You’re going to have to clean your face in the morning anyway, so why not do it before bedtime and save yourself from all the above-mentioned beauty consequences? Besides, painstakingly removing last night’s drunken memories a.k.a. smudged mascara will mean less time for crunches.
