Once we reach our 40s, most of us already have a feel for products and ingredients that work best for our skin. However, most skincare products targeted to this age group are meant to address dehydration or dry skin in general. When in reality, there are women in their 40s who still deal with oily skin on the daily.
If that's you and are in need of product recos, here's how three women keep their oily and combination skin healthy in their 40s!
Joey Mead King (Combination Skin)
"I have combination skin and my skin concerns were hormonal pimples on my chin and cheeks. I learned more about how to balance, hydrate and nourish my skin in my 40s. I halted the use of many unnecessary products and ceased the use of makeup during the pandemic to just simple basics such as an eyebrow brush and lip and cheek tints.
"For my facial skincare, I have found great benefits from the Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip cleanser, Aztec Secrets Indian Healing Clay which I also use for my body, the Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask, the Helix-D Ageless Eye Serum from Beauty Scout, TruSkin Tea Tree Clear Skin Serum but only every three days at night, and The Body Shop Tea Tree Toner which I've been using for almost 20 years now. Most nights, I just wash my face with cleanser and that's it."
Agoo Azcuna-Bengzon (Combination Skin)
"Now that I’m approaching my mid 40s, I make sure to use skin care products that pack a bigger punch. I made the conscious decision to switch to ZO Skin Health this year because ZO's products are known to be of medical grade which means they’re more potent and more effective than regular skin care products out in the market. This is why some of their products are best prescribed by a derma, and are available at Belo Clinics.
"I start with the Exfoliating Cleanser, a salicylic-based cleanser with tiny beads that go deep into pores to slough off all the bad stuff. After that, I use the Oil Control Pads (this acts as my "toner"). The Oil Control Pads are a must! These salicylic acid + glycolic acid infused pads leave a wonderfully cool and tingly feeling on your skin, and they also keep your T-zone from getting greasy. I love it! After that, I apply the 10% Vitamin C Self-Activating Serum, followed by the Daily Power Defense, then the Firming Serum. The only non-ZO product I use now is FillMed's HXR-Eye Cream. The last thing I apply for day is the Sunscreen + Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 30, and for night, it's the Retinol Skin Brightener."

Aubrey Miles (Oily Skin)
"For my skincare every day, I use an Yves Rocher foam wash/scrub when I'm in the shower. I exfoliate once a week with the Ogawa electric facial roller brush. I follow it with the Thayers toner, and I apply the Skinmate Placenta Cream twice a week. I use the Belo sunblock every day even if I don't go out. But, if I do go out, I use a microbiome moisturizer and sunblock.
"At night, I wash my face with the same foaming wash from Yves Rocher then the Skinmate Beauty Plus Whitening Cold Cream at night. I make sure I drink lots of water at night because the aircon makes our skin dry. So, I keep a water bottle beside my table."
