4 Signs You’re Stuck in a Workout Rut It’s time to shake up your routine.

If the past few months for you meant religiously hitting the gym because of a promise you made to yourself at the beginning of the year, then congrats! Commitment to working out is not an easy task, but after a while, a new dilemma arises. Your body plateaus, and in effect partially hinders you from reaching your goals. But how does one know when you have reached this stage? Here are a few signs to take note of:

1. You’re finding more and more reasons to skip the gym.

When the excitement you once felt after you first bought those boxing gloves is gone, and if you start seeing it as a routine instead of a form of release, it’s time to look for a new love. You don’t necessarily have to ditch your go-to activity altogether, but enrolling in new classes just to switch things up might help.

2.You get bored fast.

If you’ve been doing yoga five times a week for the past two years, you’ve probably already mastered the poses and can even do an entire session without a trainer. Once you start getting bored doing something that other people are having a hard time learning, then it might be a sign to try something else, like a new sport, perhaps. You know it’s time when you are no longer challenged and you feel like you can do the activity even with your eyes closed.

3.You no longer feel like your workout is producing results.

There will come a certain point when your body will become so used to doing the same routine over and over again that it will no longer give you the results you want. Do you work so hard to sweat out the burger and fries you just had for lunch but you feel like nothing is happening? Don’t let the frustration get to you and go research new programs to try instead.

4.You feel extra tired after a session.

Exercise should give you more energy and not leave you feeling rundown. Remember: You’re aiming for that healthy post-workout glow; not a burnt-out look.

Did you know that repetitive motions can cause wear and tear on your ligaments and tendons? Yup! Giving your muscles something new to do can help give you and your muscles relief. Hey, even a change in lifestyle can affect your program preference! For some people, especially fresh grads or those on summer vacay, high intensity dance sessions or an hour class of Crossfit are easy-peasy. But for others with hectic schedules, relaxing yoga becomes more ideal. At the end of the day, it completely varies per person. The decision is all up to you. This is just a little something to remember!
