To settle score the once and for all, we’ve compiled a list on why you need to start stepping up with your skincare:
First off, it protects your skin.
Your skin secretes its own oil called sebum, which can form a protective layer on the skin. But when you wash your face, it’s gone, leaving the skin unprotected and free to be ravaged by the elements (think pollution, heat, and air conditioning).
It’s a MUST for the dry-skinned.
Dry skin is caused by the underproduction of sebum. Without the extra help, you can be sure of flaking and cracking, and that can be tons painful (not to mention unsightly).
Yes, even the perpetually shiny can benefit.
So what if you sport a little disco ball action when the clock strikes midday? If you moisturize right after washing your face, you can trick your skin into thinking it’s made enough sebum and lay low on the oil-producing front.
And probably the most important reason:
It locks in moisture.
Think of your skin as a sponge. The more water it holds, the softer and more pliable it is, right? But if you leave it out to dry, it becomes hard, brittle, and rough. But with a coating of moisturizer around your skin, it can seal the hydration in so you won’t ever end up looking like a dried up sponge.
