If the numerous billboards along EDSA last year showed us anything it was that skin was in. From hotties in their undies to women so scantily clad that even the MMDA found them too distracting, there was a surplus of awe-inspiring bodies lining our streets leaving us wishing we didn't have that extra serving of rice at lunch.
But more than making us feel bad about our muffin tops, the images actually worked to help us become more conscious of the unhealthy habits to kick from our lifestyle. So to keep the health-conscious momentum going, we share our top thin-spiring stories of the year which got all of us out of bed and into the gym.
Sharon Cuneta stopped traffic (literally) in January when her Marie France billboard rose along EDSAshowing the Mega Star twenty pounds lighter and a hundred times chicer. Claiming to be done with all the crash dieting she did in the past to shed the pounds, Sharon credited the capable doctors and staff at the body clinic for understanding her body and using the right slimming techniques to get rid of some 7-inches around her waist.
But the television host wasn’t without her skeptics. A heated exchange ensued on Twitter after Sharon read some backhanded comments that questioned the authenticity of the weight loss. Sharon and the campaign photographer Raymond Isaac both maintained however that the images were Photoshop free.
Flawless transformed Iza Calzado from a demure beauty to a total fox with her steamy campaign photos released in late January. The actress who shared she fought obesity as a child, had no fat in sight leaning suggestively on a pole while in a skimpy metallic body suit. Thanks to the Shape and Sculpt program which melts and shrinks fat cells, Iza’s body looked crazy good and sexier than we’ve ever seen the actress—now that’s what we call flab to fab.
In April we saw another star billboard that caused a commotion. As the new face of BodyTite, a radio-frequency based liposuction treatment, Ruffa Gutierrez’s Belo billboard landed on prime property right by the NAIA Terminal 2. Looking sexy in barely-there in a Charina Sarte swimsuit, the image was deemed too risqué for public consumption by the authorities and was taken down. Luckily, the Mark Nicdao-shot campaign had options—Ruffa in a draped red Martin Bautista gown may have hidden the host’s new toned tummy but did show off her legs that go on for days.
Who didn’t turn green with envy during every one of Anne Curtis’ bikini-clad scenes in No Other Woman? And no, our jealousy doesn’t stem from her steamy clips with Derek Ramsey. Instead, Anne’s solid abs, lean gams, and toned shoulders left our mouths agape at just how fit the actress is looking these days.
During her Preview September cover shoot, the actress told Style Bible that her newer body is no walk in the park. A rigorous combination of Plyometrics and Core Kinesis whipped Anne’s body into shape and with all the revealing gowns she wore in 2011, it seems like she wasn’t shy about showing it all off.
It takes a lot to knock Manny Pacquiao out, but surely wife Jinkee's banging new body did the job. Openly admitting to liposuction and other cosmetic procedures, Jinkee Pacquiao emerged fearless in September, finally happy with her Herver Leger ready curves. And with all the drama that surrounded her in 2011, boxing's first lady found the ultimate cure to stress: one-on-one time with Dr. Vicky Belo herself.
“I’m finally a sexy 25!,” and no, Georgina Wilson wasn’t talking about her age. As the new face of Sexy Solutions, a lifestyle-based program that integrates exercise, diet and treatments, the model graced EDSA in a sheer blush bustier and fitting jeans while comfortably wrapping a measuring tape around her abdomen in October. Sharing that she lost a total of six inches around the body, the model was happy to note that she now has the 25-inch waist line she’s always wanted.
