For the past few years, Paloma Zobel has been focusing her energy and resources on projects such as Idea’yala, an ideation program for the youth to execute innovation for the Ayala Group, and now, Piopio, her new clothing brand. Piopio modernizes inabel—a hand-loomed fabric from Ilocos—into fashion- forward resort wear, while supporting local communities and Filipino culture.

A look at the inabel weave Pio Pio champions and transforms into contemporary resort wear. Left over scraps from the cutting room floor are then made into fun and quirky accessories (like these slippers!) to minimize waste.

Paloma's personal style also reflects Pio Pio's aesthetic. 

For Paloma, any project that offers long-term benefits to the community, and in turn challenges her to develop her own personal toolkit, is an initiative worth pursuing. “These projects are inspired by Filipino creativity. I merely help build platforms to help showcase the incredible work and ideas that I encounter during my travels,” she says.

Paloma does resort wear with Filipino flair 24/7.

On what compelled her to start Piopio, Paloma reveals, “I have been noticing this amazing surge in Filipino pride in my age group and quickly saw an opportunity to join in on the movement by introducing fabrics such as inabel to someone who might not be exposed to it on a regular basis.”
