Buying Filipino-made products has come a long way. We'd like to think that, with the emergence of more local brands pushing the envelope when it comes to business and fashion, we're no longer limited to thinking that the souvenir shops are the only places where we can buy something locally made and manufactured.

Take for example, the new hole-in-the-wall boutique in Makati called Tropa. It's a lifestyle store that houses various local brands like Araw, Eairth, and Pranca. One of the owners, Carla Sison shared that multi-brand shop aims to be "a contemporary lifestyle store showcasing Filipino brands that reflect a global perspective. We aim to provide all the vacation essentials from swimwear to mosquito repellant, all the while giving an insight into what the modern creative Filipino is doing and dreaming."

They also noted that they put up the said store due to the the current climate of our city and industry. "We need platforms to create and communicate. Tropa is our way of doing what best represents who we are as Filipinos living in the Philippines. Filipinos are very proud people and with Tropa, we hope to have created a space where we showcase unique Filipino brands. We want people to know that made in the Philippines doesn't just mean novelty souvenir store products," Carla explains. "I think Filipinos are catching on to the global shift towards slow fashion. People are starting to value timeless pieces that last beyond a single season."

They've just released their first collection called "Unattended," which is basically a teaser on what we can expect from the brand. Tropa, however, isn't stopping at being stockists. "[Our] in-house line is expanding [its] accessory offering. And our brands are building exclusive capsule collections and collaborating. [There will be] fun activities at the store involving live performances, exhibits, and lots of products."

So if you're someone who enjoys "being in a place that offers constantly evolving urban adventures and simple island life," you better head on over to Tropa and start shopping.

Tropa is located at 117 Aguirre St, Legaspi Village, Makati.
