Leopard print is one of those things that you know will just always be in fashion. They might not always be fashionable or au courant since they're not always on-trend every season, but they will always be a go-to thing for those in the search for instant ferocity, whether it be through just a touch (on a clutch or a pump, perhaps), or full-on assault (a leopard print dress, jacket, pants, etc.—you get the idea). I even vaguely remember Diane von Furstenberg saying in an interview that whenever she feels stuck, she just uses leopard print in her designs, and it always, always sells.
The print has the power of awakening our primal instincts, and any woman aware of its power has a leopard print piece or two in her clothing arsenal for times when she needs to pull out all the stops. Designer Louis Claparols is well aware of this need, which is why he liberally uses the beloved print in his latest collection, which welcomes summer 2012.
He says simply, "It's my way of bringing out the wild side of every woman," and rightly so. It's not difficult to feel sexy, dangerous, and, yes, wild, in the slinky dresses and draped skirts of the collection. But to temper the pre-summer 2012 outing's jungle feel, Louis brings back color-blocking in loose sheaths and form-hugging cocktail dresses, but toughens them up with brass embellishments. There's nothing too romantic here, which is precisely what the fashion docs prescribe for a boost in vampy confidence.
The collection will be available this weekend in Myth in Greenbelt 5, just in time for the Valentine rush if you're looking for something to feel ferocious in. New styles from the collection will be available in the store every weekend from this month until March.
