In the local fashion scene, most designers take inspiration from the international runways. But for local designer Gabbie Sarenas, she reverts back in time and anchors to our rich heritage to create intricate pieces that are both modern and chic.

Using the callado technique, Gabbie embroiders Filipino-inspired symbols on her garments that will take you back to your province's lush greeneries or echo your grandmother's stories on mythical creatures.

Gabbie's vision of putting Filipino elements into her work is easily translated through quality craftsmanship, unique detailings, and a flair for volume. She tells Preview that she takes inspiration not just from the rurals. "I get my inspiration from my client and the brand's taste and values. I would also get inspiration from my travels, art, and old books," she adds.
