Take note of these five basic steps.

Matte lipsticks are the best because they're long-wearing, but unfortunately, they also dehydrate our puckers. To prevent this from happening, try these tips below:

1. Remove dry skin.

Using a damp washcloth or lip scrub, slough away flaky skin to create a smooth canvas.

2. Slather on moisture.

Apply lip balm and top it off with a teeny bit of eye cream to hydrate your pout. Leave it on for at least two minutes, then blot off excess moisture with tissue.

TRY: Clinique Superbalm Lip Treatment, P950, SM Megamall

3. Prime your lips.

Wield a lip primer or a liner to act as a base for your lip color. This helps the hue stay on longer.

TRY: MAC Prep+Prime Lip, P1000, Glorietta

4. Go easy on the application.

Whether you're using a liquid or bullet version of your matte lippie, it's best to apply it in thin layers. A super thick one will just crack and flake off.

5. Correct.

Of course, not everyone is born with precise hands, so remove the uneven application with a concealer or a cotton bud dipped in micellar water.
